Because Western Tech is an accredited institution, students may apply for federal financial aid. There are different types of financial aid based on student eligibility and need. Most aid programs are non-credit-based grants and loans.
A need-based grant intended to guarantee eligible low-income students financial access to the school or college of their choice. Students who have already received an undergraduate degree are not eligible.
A need-based grant awarded to students selected quarterly by the school. Because of limited fund availability, the maximum SEOG award is $500 per year per student.
A need-based, low-interest loan borrowed from a participating lender. Interest not to exceed 8.25% is paid by the federal government while the student is in school at least half-time, during the grace period and during periods of deferment. Repayment (minimum of $50/month) begins six months after the student graduates, leaves school or drops below half-time status.
A non-need-based loan available to all students regardless of income. Interest not to exceed 8.25% is paid by the student and begins to accrue at the time of disbursement. The student may opt to defer and capitalize interest payments. Repayment (minimum of $50/month) begins six months after the student graduates, leaves school or drops below half-time status.
(Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students) An interest-bearing loan for parents of dependant students. Parents may borrow up to the total cost of their student’s education, minus any other aid the student is eligible for. Interest not to exceed 9% begins to accrue at the time of disbursement and repayment begins 60 days after the full loan amount has been disbursed.
Another program offering federal subsidized, unsubsidized and parent loans through the school. Terms of these loans are similar to the Stafford and PLUS loans. For more information, please contact the Financial Assistance Department.
