Flying High at the Amigo Airsho!

Every year, the Amigo Airsho attracts thousands of visitors and this year, Western Technical College (WTC) was a proud sponsor of the B-17 Sentimental Journey. In attendance with a racing trailer and bright blue WTC race car all types of people were drawn to the booth. Besides the free water bottles and the chance to win a new MP3 player, visitors to the WTC booth at the Airsho could obtain information about WTC and how to register. Laura Pena, Director of Admissions, who worked at the WTC booth both days, had this to say, “Even with the rainy weather, it was a great turn out; the trailer drew huge crowds, and overall the booth was very successful.”

In preparation for the AirSho, Power 102’s Live Remote team broadcasted live from WTC’s Plaza campus during September, where students had fun competing for prizes like cd’s and even tickets to the AirSho in some interesting contests. There was a Michael Jackson trivia quiz, and there was even a dance-off that Maribel Carrillo, a medical/Clinical Assistant student won with her version of the moon walk. Carrillo says “I won a Britney Spears cd for dancing like Michael Jackson; it was fun, and we got out of class for a little while.”

At the AirSho, Antonio Escalante, champion boxer who has proudly been sponsored by WTC for his past two successful fights, drew even more attention to the Western Tech booth as he signed photos handed out by Team Escalante. He even posed playfully for pictures with AirSho goers of all ages. It is believed that Escalante drew in more people than the Miller Light Girls at the Dallas Cowboys Bus next to the Western Tech set up. The Miller Light girls even came over for pictures and autographs with Escalante.

All around, the Amigo AirSho was a huge success for Western Tech as many people visited the booth initially maybe because they saw the race car, the trailer, or Antonio Escalante, but when they left the booth they were equipped with knowledge for career training at Western Tech.
