In mid October, Western Technical College (WTC) hosted a gigantic job fair where over one hundred employers took applications from and met with over 4,000 WTC Students and Alumni. There was a full range of employing businesses at booths available for Western Tech students to peruse through and visit with from massage therapy clinics to performance enhancing auto tuners and from dental offices to environmental services. Pete Ortega and Mario Sandoval, Inspectors for the City of El Paso’s Environmental Services Vector Control, both agree that Western Tech students and graduates are excellent employees because of how well prepared they are.
Similarly, Ray Luna of Luna Performance says he works closely with Western Tech because he knows the quality of the students as he used to be an instructor. He says the job fair is especially “beneficial for students because they get to see a good spectrum of possible employers.” Irma Ornelas, CEO of Employment Source, says she was very happy to be invited to participate in the job fair, because she knows any students she may hire are taught by great instructors.
Angie Lujan, a Receptionist for Western Tech who worked at the job fair says things went great, and the job fair is “a great opportunity for students and graduates to find job opportunities.” With over a hundred employers to speak to, Western Tech students and graduates certainly do have positive prospects. While the Job Fair was exceptionally successful, WTC offers graduate placement assistance through the Career Services Department. This year’s Job Fair was high energy and fast paced with the positive buzz from so many excited students, graduates, employers, and the Western Technical College employees that made the Job Fair possible.
Cindy Gomez, Marketing Director for Vista Hills Family Dental, says “the job fair was excellent;” she even ran out of business cards and had to get more. She adds that students are so well prepared that they are basically already hired! Most of the participating employers were of the same opinion that the job fair was a success due to the quality of the college, its instructors, and the quality students that graduated from a college that insures the success of its students.
