Get MADD! We Did!

On few occasions, the department of Student Services at Western Technical College has facilitated guest speaker, Ms. Leticia Miranda, a Victim’s Service Specialist from the MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) organization. Individuals cannot help but to be moved by the emotional testimonies of families illustrating that illustrates the devastation of accidents that occurs due to of drunk driving. MADD’s mission is twofold: First and foremost MADD aims to stop drunk driving and prevent underage drinking; and second, MADD provides support for the victims of this violent crime through counseling, legal help, and even financial aid.  Miranda reminds us that MADD is not just composed of angry mothers; there are also sisters, brothers, fathers, and so many others that volunteer with MADD to help educate about drinking and driving. Miranda pleads with her audience to please help spread the message “it is about what is happening to the victims, their families, and the community.”

There are so many ways to help MADD; one specific way is to simply spread the following message “Don’t drink and drive.” Another way is to support the organization and help raise money for the program.  WTC did just that and became a proud sponsor! You can join MADD, too, on April 10, 2010 for the annual 5K walk.  Visit www.walklikemadd.org to register and help educate about the risks of drunk driving.
