Demonstrating their continuing commitment to patient care, all Physical Therapist Assistant students and faculty at Western Technical College, have achieved 100 percent membership in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
"Achieving 100 percent membership in our professional association is significant because this will eventually reflect the support that we get from our future professionals. I feel that this is vital for us to grow in the community in order to better serve the community. What we do in our schools has a great impact on how our profession is shaped" said Richard Flores, Director of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Western Technical College.
Each member of APTA pledges to abide by the Association’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Ethical Conduct, which holds them to a high standard of practice. Each member of APTA is responsible for maintaining the high standards of conduct while assisting physical therapists.
A Physical Therapist Assistant works under the direction of a Physical Therapist. These are health care professionals who diagnose and manage individuals of all ages, from newborns to elders, who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. Physical therapists examine each individual and develop a plan of care using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. Physical therapists also work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility by developing fitness- and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles.
APTA (www.apta.org) is a national organization representing physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students nationwide. Its goal is to foster advancements in physical therapist education, practice, and research.
