Western Technical College is proud to announce the selection of Mr. Richard Brubaker and Mr. Paul Wilson as the 2009 El Paso Association of Career Schools Teacher of the Year Award Recipients. Mr. Brubaker has been chosen as the Teacher of the Year at the Main Eastside Campus while Mr. Wilson represents the Northeast Branch Campus.
Richard Brubaker has been a Combination Welding and Pipe Welding Instructor with WTC since February of 2007. Richard’s specialties in welding include: Blueprint reading, Oxy-Acetylene processing, Brazing, Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding, Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding, Certification in Pipe Welding in the 2G, 5G, and 6G Positions, Plasma Cutting, Pipe Layout and Fit up, Math Skills/Metric reading/Conversion charts, and Air-Arc Cuttin
Mr. Brubaker was chosen as a Teacher of the Year because of the dedicated, hard work, and student centered learning environment created within his classroom. Mr. Brubaker has a unique focus on taking care of student needs while utilizing his field experience in a dynamic and interesting classroom. Richard is active not only in his teaching but also in all parts of Western Technical College where he serves on several committees which are all designed to promote student success.
Mr. Paul D. Wilson is an Electronics Instructor at WTC’s Branch Campus. Mr. Wilson has been an instructor since December of 2004 where he has been an integral part of the development of the Electronics Engineering Technology curriculum. Paul brings several years of experience into teaching style where his overriding philosophy is, “Teaching makes all other professions possible.”
Paul was chosen as the Teacher of The Year because of his caring attitude and high ideals and dedication to the success of all students. Mr. Wilson ensures that all students entering his classroom understand the high level of expectations and the level of hard work which must take place not only in the classroom but also in the work force.
