12 High Schools to Compete With Their Pre- Engineered Robots at the
T-Robo Competition & Geek Fest This Weekend
Western Technical College will hold the second annual T-Robo competition and accompanying all day free Geek Fest on Saturday, May 18th, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Branch Campus. 12 area high schools are busy engineering and programming robots to race, wrestle and autonomously traverse in competition categories this weekend. The event has been designed to encourage learning in the areas of math, science, engineering, and technology (STEM), and to showcase El Paso’s youth talent. Winning high school teams in each of the four categories of competition will get to keep their robots.
This year’s accompanying event includes displays from XmotoBall, El Paso Fire Department, and Hams of W5ES El Paso Amateur Radio Club. There will be live bands and electronic music all day in addition to food vendors and other interactive booths for attendees to participate. The band and DJ line- up includes Among the Brave, Of Sand and Fog, DJ Machiavelli, DJ Deepthreads, & DJ I-Underground.
There is no entry fee to Geek Fest, and it is open to the public. The event is sponsored by: Entravision, Cengage Learning, Microtek, Isign Design, Brunson Pump Service, G & G Productions, XMotoBall, Teaching Systems Inc, Dahill, Crust Crawler, Saratoga Homes, Time Capital Entertainment, The Cable Source, AFL Telecommunications, Parallax Inc, and Costco Wholesale.
