April 10, 2014- El Paso, Texas- Western Technical College is proud to announce that Information Systems and Security & Electronics Engineering Technology Instructor and Internship Coordinator, David Luevano, has been elected Board President for SkillsUSA Texas colleges and postsecondary schools. His general responsibilities for his two year term include: ensuring that the Board of Directors and its members are aware of and fulfill of their governance responsibilities; complying with applicable laws and bylaws; conducting board business effectively and efficiently; and, being accountable for his performance.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA's mission is to empower its members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens. Currently, the organization has 13,000 school chapters and serves more than 300,000 students and instructors.
Luevano says, “Western Technical College now has a prominent voice in the development of SkillsUSA in the state of Texas. This might also put us one step closer to hosting the State competition for SkillsUSA, which would be a great opportunity for the city. This appointment confirms Western Tech as an influential voice in the SkillsUSA Texas organization.”
