New Texas Gun Law and WTC’s Policy

Greetings,

As many of you are aware, the new Texas Gun Law went into effect on September 01, 2021. Although Texans can now carry a handgun in public without a permit or the background check and training previously required by the state, the passage of this Law does not cover private businesses and therefore, does not include career schools.  This means that no one is allowed to bring firearms onto this property.  The property includes all areas both inside and outside the buildings, the parking lot areas, break areas, park area (Plaza Campus), and storage areas.

• Pursuant to Section 30.05, Penal Code (criminal trespass), a person may not enter this property with a firearm”
• “Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (criminal trespass), a person may not enter this property with a concealed carry firearm”;
• “Pursuant to Section 30.07, Penal Code (criminal trespass), a person may not enter this property with an openly carried firearm”

Everyone’s safety is important to us, and everyone is expected to adhere to this policy.  Consequences for bringing a firearm of any kind onto the property may result in termination of training, and depending on the infraction, may also involve law enforcement.

The signs that carry this message are on prominent display outside the buildings.
