4th Generation Locally Owned Business Celebrates 50 Years in Serving the EL Paso Community

January 29, 2020

El Paso, Texas – January 21, 2020– Western Technical College, a fourth generation locally owned establishment, will be celebrating 50 years of service to the El Paso community. Western Technical College began as El Paso Trade School in January 1970 and was established to meet the unmet need for many types of trained technicians in the El Paso region. The first program was Combination Welding (now Advanced Welding), followed in subsequent years by programs in (HVAC)Refrigeration, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning; Automotive; Diesel; Electronics Engineering Technology; Information Systems and Security; Medical Clinical Assistant; Medical Billing and Coding, Massage Therapy; Physical Therapy Assistant, Commercial Driver Training, Nursing, and Business Administration.

Throughout the years, Western Technical College has graduated over 30,000 students, and many have gone on to become positive contributors in the El Paso job market and community. Some alumni are now business owners or hold positions where they continue to give back by hiring students who are graduating and need support as they start their careers. In addition, many corporate relationships and agreements have been established with several companies to help students find jobs both locally and out- side El Paso.

“Western Tech takes great pride in the traditions, customer service, graduate successes, and the trademark that have embodied Western Tech. We love El Paso, and we appreciate the continued support that has allowed us to continue our legacy.  Here’s to the next 50 years,” commented CEO Brad Kuykendall.

Western Tech is excited to celebrate this wonderful and unique milestone and will host a 50thCelebration Kick Off on January 29, 2020. The celebration is open to the public, alumni, employers, and school districts, and many dignitaries from the El Paso community have been invited and will be attending. The event and proclamation from the county, the city, and the state will begin at 10:45am at 9624 Plaza Circle.
