FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You’ve Got Questions, We’ve Got Answers!

How big is Western Technical College?
Western Tech’s East Campus features 150,000 square feet of classroom and hands-on training space, as well as a large driving range. The Northeast Campus has 48,000 square feet. You’ll find both campuses to be clean and modern, with labs just like the ones you’ll encounter out in the workforce.

How long does it take to graduate?
Training times vary by program. Certificate programs range from 6–13 months; associate degree programs from 17–22 months; and bachelor’s degree programs from 2–3 years. Staying focused is key. Most of our students graduate on time because they’re serious about their success.

How big are the classes?
On average, there are 15 students per class. This can range up to 25 students based on demand. We’re committed to small-group learning so you can participate fully in hands-on activities and get personal interaction with peers and instructors.

How many faculty members are there?
We have 11 program directors covering 15 programs, along with multiple instructors for each program. Between both campuses, we have approximately 130 faculty members.

How are faculty selected?
First, we only select instructors with years of real-world experience (a minimum of five years is what we strive for). Our rigorous selection process includes presenting to an audience that has the program director, academic dean and other faculty to determine knowledge and expertise in the subject matter. We also invest a lot of time and resources in equipping our faculty with ongoing training, so they can fully prepare you for what’s next in your chosen profession.

How long has Western Technical College been around?
We’ve been teaching students here in El Paso since 1970 and have more than 22,000 graduates!

Is financial aid available?
There are several financial aid options available. Our friendly financial aid staff is here to take the stress out of worrying about how to pay for college. They’ll explain all of your options and can even help you and your family with the applications. Learn more about Financial Aid.

Are internships/clinicals included in the training?
Yes, most programs include an internship or clinical. This allows you to apply your skills with an actual employer at their job site. You’ll also gain valuable knowledge beyond just knowing your trade – such as communicating effectively with customers, patients, coworkers and managers.

What is available to active military personnel and veterans?
Active military and veterans, along with their families, have a special place in our hearts. That’s why we go the extra mile to serve them – like extending a 10% tuition discount. Western Technical College is a member of the Army Continuing Education System and has been designated as a Service members Opportunity Consortium college. For more info, click here.
