Adapting to Win | Home Order Update

April 17, 2020

Greetings Students and Staff,

Over the last week, it’s unfortunate that we have seen the number of cases increase throughout our community. Our city, state, and federal officials have called for increased social distancing to help contain the spread of the virus. As we continue to receive updates, we are continuing to evaluate our daily operations. Your safety continues to be our priority. We want to make sure we play a constructive role by continuing to take responsible actions that are suggested by the CDC and other experts.

As we continue to work and adjust to these trying times, it’s important that we as the Western Tech Family stay focused on the positive and optimistic that we will soon be back to the “hands-on” training that we all love. This is helping all of us enhance our technological skills and become stronger communicators in ways that we had not imagined. Max Mckeown, an English author wrote, “Adaptability is about the powerful difference to cope and adapting to win.” I suggest that all of us decide that our mindset will be one of, “adapting to win!”

BEST OF EL PASO 2020 AWARD
We did want to share some good news with you in the midst of all of the craziness. I am proud to announce that Western Technical College has been selected as one of the 2020 Best of El Paso Award winners by the El Paso Award Program. Each year, the El Paso Award Program identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional success in their local community and business category. As we celebrate our 50th Anniversary, this award came at the perfect time!

THE MEDICAL/CLINICAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM AMONG THE BEST ONLINE OPTIONS FOR 2020-21
Recently, an industry leading website for Medical Assisting programs (www.onlinemedicalassistantprograms.net) performed a national assessment of every CAAHEP- and ABHES-accredited medical assistant programs. We were honored to hear that they selected Western Tech to be one of the 20 elite programs in the nation. Congratulations to the faculty and students of the Medical/Clinical Assistant Program!

STAY HOME ORDER

I know many of you have already heard the most-recent city and county order. Unless otherwise notified, students will adhere to their online/distance learning through Friday, May 15, 2020 and will return to their normal class schedules at their respective campus on Monday, May 18, 2020.

Certain programs have made adaptations and will continue in that manner unless otherwise instructed. We are currently working with the Texas Department of Emergency Response to allow for additional modified hands-on/kinesthetic lab instruction. Any changes will be communicated through your Program Director or Campus President.

SUPPORT EACH OTHER

I’m inspired as I see our community, nation, and the world coming together to battle this pandemic. We at WTC are a family! We will continue to learn, grow, and adapt together. Continue to support one another by checking on each other. If someone is not in class, reach out to them. We are ALL in this together.

Stay Positive!
